"The Merit Act would greatly streamline the process for firing employees who are poor performers, insubordinate, or otherwise engaged in misconduct.  Since the election of President Trump, the bureaucracy, including numerous holdovers from the Obama administration, has been engaged in an unprecedented level of obstruction, leaks, and sabotage.  These bad actors call it “resistance.”  FBI and Department of Justice misconduct in the Trump-Russia probe and the Clinton email scandal is only the most visible component.

This is nothing new.  President Bush faced similar resistance from the bureaucracy, and going as far back as 1986, the Reagan administration had to contend with a State Department relentlessly working to derail his foreign policy. ...
What about the horrors we discovered at the Veterans Administration?  Or how about the 100 federal  employees watching porn at work, some for as long as six hours per day? ...

The Veritas video presents a portrait of a State Department bureaucrat committed to “resistance.”  The employee caught on tape, one Stuart Karaffa, says, “Resist everything…every level, f‑‑‑ s‑‑‑ up.” Karaffa is a self-identified member of Democratic Socialists of America, and uses work time to draft DSA-related political emails, a violation of the Hatch Act.  What about getting caught?  He says, “I don’t have anything to lose.  It’s impossible to fire federal employees." ...
But President Obama made matters worse, politicizing the hiring process under a 2010 executive order that circumvented many federal hiring rules.  This made it easier for him to seed the bureaucracy with his people.  We are witnessing the results.  It’s called the Deep State.".......

Literal Swamp-Draining issues, via KTBS: 

NEW BERN, NC - The Louisiana Cajun Navy has been ordered to stop helping with rescues in part of North Carolina.According to the Cajun Navy's Facebook page, members of the volunteer group were ordered to cease activity in the city of New Bern. Leaders with the group say the decision was made by officials at the city's emergency operations center. The EOC says it is taking over rescues from here on out. " .......

"Could it possibly be that elements within the deep state are targeting Rosenstein for his willingness to comply and debrief, President Trump on the matter of the declassification directive?  Smells similar."

"The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Bob Goodlatte, tweeted today their intention to immediately subpoena the memos written by fired Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe. ...However, the subpoena alone that’s not the revelation-angle within the story. There’s a bigger story as noted by judiciary committee Representative Jim Jordan: “Mr. Rosenstein, give Congress the McCabe memos that we asked for in July and all the other documents we’ve requested so we can all judge for ourselves.” The bigger revelation here is how someone, some unknown FBI officials, kept the McCabe  memos from congress and subsequently from a previous internal INSD investigation of McCabe.".......

Seems like Rosenstein has the Comey Problem--not trusted by either side.
It also seems like wiretapping Donald Trump is their first reflex.

And finally, a real professor speaks on our New UnCivil War:
"Tribalism is the new American norm. Gender, sexual orientation, religion, race and ethnicity are now essential, not incidental, to who we are. Americans scramble to divide into victimized blocs. Hyphenated and newly accented names serve as advertisements that particular groups have unique affiliations beyond their shared Americanism. America is often the target of unrealistic criticism — as if it is suddenly toxic because it is not perfect. Few appreciate that the far worse alternatives abroad are rife with racism, sexism, civil strife, corruption and poverty unimaginable in the United States.

The last few elections added to the growing abyss. The old Democratic Party of John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton is now trending into a radical democratic socialist party. Meanwhile, the old Republican Party is mostly gone, replaced by tea party movements and the new Donald Trump base. ... Mr. Obama issued dozens of controversial “pen and phone” executive orders, bypassing Congress. And President Trump is systematically overturning them — doing so with similar executive orders.

Will America keep dividing and soon resort to open violence, as happened in 1861? Or will Americans reunite and bind up our wounds, as we did following the upheavals of the 1930s Great Depression or after the protests of the 1960s? The answer lies within each of us. Every day we will either treat each other as fellow Americans, with far more uniting than dividing us, or we will continue on the present path that eventually ends in something like a hate-filled Iraq, Rwanda or the Balkans.".......

One quibble with Prof. Hanson:  Obama's executive orders, and President Trump's overturning of them by Executive Order, are not morally-equivalent acts as implied. By overturning them, they are thrown back into the political branches, therefore providing accountability to the People as the Founders intended.

That is a very Anti-Swamp act.
