ClimateCare: "If you like your fisherman, you can keep your fisherman."
The black-footed albatross and red-footed booby of Midway anxiously await their lecture from "Red" Hussein Obama, the first Albatross-American president. |
"'Midway'?--I thought they said 'Fairway' or I never would have agreed to come. Where's the clubhouse?" "There is no clubhouse, sir. And you're late to your lecture for the birds." |
"...so remember, kids; Communism is just as good as capitalism--maybe better! Now, who wants to go for a boat ride? We'll only be gone for three hours..." |
BlastingNews : "Yesterday, while visiting Hawaii’s Midway Atoll, President #Obama officially made the size of a marine monument twice the size of Texas while highlighting his #Climate Change commitment. The monument's new size has angered local fishermen and Native Hawaiians. The monument, created by President George W. Bush in 2006, puts more land and waters off limits to local fishermen and recreation, and Obama’s critics are calling his actions heavy-handed. The monument is now the largest protected marine #Environment in the world or roughly 3.5 times the size of California.
A native of Hawaii, Obama used his executive power to expand the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, making large swaths of fertile fishing grounds off-limits to fishermen. That means they now have to travel at least four times further out to sea to catch fish like tuna, a costly adventure that actually emits more greenhouse gas emissions because of the increased travel time [not to mention spoilage-ed.]. Hawaiians not only consume three times more fish than landlocked Americans but fishing is a major source of local commerce.".............
AP: "The White House estimated that the region's longline fishing industry would suffer about a 6 percent loss as a result of making the expanded area off-limits to commercial fishing. But Obama's aides argued fishermen could make up that deficit by increasing production elsewhere."........
Because if there's one thing Obama's aides know, it's how to keep jobs. Their jobs.

“Now we have a very efficient operation and that will be greatly impacted when they can’t fish around Hawaii,” said former Gov. George Ariyoshi. “I feel very strongly that the state is in a better position to decide what is good for the ocean rather than federal officials.”
Opponents also argue that the expansion could hurt consumers, since prices will likely rise with fishermen traveling farther out to catch fish.".............
"Don't mind us--we just live |
The council recommends catch limits and other steps designed to sustain fisheries. It said it recommended other expansion options that would have minimized impacts to the Hawaii longline fishery, which supplies a large portion of the fresh tuna and other fish consumed in Hawaii.
“Closing 60 percent of Hawaii’s waters to commercial fishing, when science is telling us that it will not lead to more productive local fisheries, makes no sense,” said Edwin Ebiusi Jr., chairman of the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council “Today is a sad day in the history of Hawaii’s fisheries and a negative blow to our local food security.”
Sean Martin, the president of the Hawaii Longline Association, said his organization was disappointed Obama closed an area nearly the size of Alaska without a public process.
“This action will forever prohibit American fishermen from accessing those American waters. Quite a legacy indeed,” he said in an email to The Associated Press. ... American Samoa’s delegate in the House of Representatives, Aumua Amata, said the monument expansion would place an already economically challenged territory at greater risk.
“Our local fishing industry, which comprises more than 80 percent of the local economy, depends heavily on access to these waters,” Amata said."
"Because what's atoll without a toll?" |
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and the Feds will close the fishery. |
Anthony Weiner insisted on coming along. |
Claudia Rosett: "In the world of the Obama narrative, it follows that almost any government controls, regulations, caps, licenses, subsidies and other instruments of state planning are richly justified by promises that the result will be to fine-tune the climate of the planet. ...When American men fought and died for victory at Midway in 1942, they were defending America, a free country -- a place of free speech and free markets. That system is the best hope of adapting to whatever change of climate might come along, man-made or otherwise. Capitalist democracy leaves room for innovation and offers incentives for inventions that genuinely work and are wanted. That is not true of intricate and overbearing climate deals, ginned up by governments, imposed by bureaucrats and endowed with no mechanism that ensures the link Obama loves to proclaim between climate-change central planning and economic growth."..........

After kneecapping and gill-netting the Hawaiian fishing industry, Obama jetted off to China to sign another One-Man Treaty on Climate Change. The climate for American presidents changed, too, with the Chinese openly insulting him. The Anti-Americanism that Obama has taught the world came home to roost on his own runway.
"In the South Seas there is a cargo cult of people. During the war they saw airplanes land with lots of good materials, and they want the same thing to happen now. So they've arranged to imitate things like runways, to put fires along the sides of the runways, to make a wooden hut for a man to sit in, with two wooden pieces on his head like headphones and bars of bamboo sticking out like antennas—he's the controller—and they wait for the airplanes to land. They're doing everything right. The form is perfect. It looks exactly the way it looked before. But it doesn't work. No airplanes land. So I call these things cargo cult science, because they follow all the apparent precepts and forms of scientific investigation, but they're missing something essential, because the planes don't land." --physicist Richard Feynman, 1974 California Institute of Technology commencement address
The planes don't land--and the temperature doesn't change because you burn tax dollars on an altar of molten lava.
The reason I dismiss Global Warming [aside from the fact that it is a fraud perpetrated by the Left to control Industrial Policy, raise taxes, transfer wealth and sovereignty from America to Transnational Government and to insidiously yet coercively manufacture "consent" through government funding] is this:
Feather the booby's nest, not the Blob's nest |
But none of the Left's Agenda is about what it says it's about:
It's All About Control, All the Time.
Out of respect for the patriots who have previously held the office, I'll just say only this: I truly hope he's reflecting on these men, whose honor and heroism must be the last word in any discussion of Midway.
'Maritime archaeologist Jason Raupp documents the Allison V-1710 Engine, unique to a P-40 World War II era aircraft. Maritime archaeologists discovered the remains of a sunken World War II era P-40K Warhawk fighter aircraft while doing research in Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in August. The wreckage was found in 25 feet of water off the southeast side of the barrier reef within the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge and Battle of Midway National Memorial.' |
