Death Panel Days
"You can't be for big government, big taxes and big bureaucracy and still be for the little guy."--Ronald Reagan
"It is one thing to believe in witches and quite another to believe in witch smellers. I have more respect for the Eugenists, who go about persecuting the fool of the family; because the witch-finders, according to their own conviction, ran a risk. Witches were not the feeble-minded, but the strong-minded --- the evil mesmerists, the rulers of the elements. Many a raid on a witch, right or wrong, seemed to the villagers who did it a righteous popular rising against a vast spiritual tyranny, a papacy of sin. Yet we know that the thing degenerated into a rabid and despicable persecution of the feeble or the old. It ended by being a war upon the weak. It ended by being what Eugenics begins by being."--G.K. Chesterton
"The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities."--Ayn Rand
TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY-ONE YEARS AGO, Americans chose to be citizens rather than subjects. Or to be more precise, about a third of Americans so chose. Another third remained loyal to the Crown, and another third were somewhere in between.
Regardless, the idea was that citizens were free-born actors who created governments to serve them, not useful cogs in the service of government.
British child Charlie Gard has been declared so much disposable Property of the State by the National Health Service and a British court that has developed a rather nasty habit of sending sick children to their doom, despite their parents' wishes.
What could it hurt, you ask, to let a child declared terminal to travel to seek care elsewhere?
A: The harm is potentially enormous--to the officious bureaucrats and death junkie control freaks who might have to spend money, but even worse, lose control over "health" "care". That's the harm.
The Vatican weighed in--on the side of death. The Pope had to reverse his own leftist panel, which includes pro-abortion members he appointed. If it was Raul Castro seeking heroic medical care, would they have ruled thusly?
Which begs the question:
Would the National Health Service have sought death if it were a Muslim child?
I doubt it.
President Trump, who has a history of helping sick children with little fanfare, even sending his own jet to do so, tweeted out his support for Charlie.
The American Professional Liar Media, who were so obsessed with Trump's tweets as long as they were about them, tried mightily to ignore Trump's tweet about Charlie. Indeed, many had already been conducting a news blackout on the unhelpful story, even though government-run healthcare is in the news everyday.
The Puppet Press was slamming Trump's re-tweet of the humorous CNN wrestling clip. The New York Times was quoting the Founding Fathers about Free Speech even though Trump has not prevented them from publishing a single word. In fact, the Times gave the Democrat assassin directions to the Congressional baseball field and tips about the security arrangements there.
Note to the Times: Yes, the Founders thought Free Speech was so important that it should even extend to vicious hack partisan liars such as yourselves. And calling a liar a liar is Free Speech, too.
CNN pronounced the re-tweet THE END OF THE REPUBLIC AS WE KNOW IT(tm)--even though CNN was proudly sponsoring and promoting the recent Trump-as-Caesar Assassination Porn. Some tentacles run deep, eh, boys?
Finally, the networks were grudgingly forced to cover Charlie's story.
And there you have it;
Big Religion, Big Media and Big Government versus One Little Boy.
And on the other side, his parents.
Also the President.
And Our Lord Jesus Christ.
We hold this truth to be self-evident: you will make a great American someday, Charlie Gard.
