Grace, Amazingly: President Ronald Reagan, Remarks at a Dallas Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast

"Perhaps it is true that Jesus never used the word ‘Messiah’ with regard to Himself (although I’m not sure that He didn’t) but in John 1, 10 and 14 He identifies Himself pretty definitely and more than once. Is there really any ambiguity in His words: ‘I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me?’… In John 10 He says, ‘I am in the Father and the Father in me.’ And He makes reference to being with God, ‘before the world was,’ and sitting on the ‘right hand of God.’…
These and other statements He made about Himself, foreclose in my opinion, any question as to His divinity."-- March 1978 letter to a liberal Methodist minister who expressed doubts about Christ’s divinity

Some excerpts from President Reagan's remarks, Aug. 23, 1984 in Dallas, Texas:

"George Washington referred to religion's profound and unsurpassed place in the heart of our nation quite directly in his Farewell Address in 1796. Seven years earlier, France had erected a government that was intended to be purely secular. This new government would be grounded on reason rather than the law of God. By 1796 the French Revolution had known the Reign of Terror.
When John Kennedy was running for President in 1960, he said that his church would not dictate his Presidency any more than he would speak for his church. Just so, and proper. But John Kennedy was speaking in an America in which the role of religion -- and by that I mean the role of all churches -- was secure. Abortion was not a political issue. Prayer was not a political issue. The right of church schools to operate was not a political issue. And it was broadly acknowledged that religious leaders had a right and a duty to speak out on the issues of the day. They held a place of respect, and a politician who spoke to or of them with a lack of respect would not long survive in the political arena. It was acknowledged then that religion held a special place, occupied a special territory in the hearts of the citizenry. The climate has changed greatly since then. And since it has, it logically follows that religion needs defenders against those who care only for the interests of the State.
A state is nothing more than a reflection of its citizens: The more decent the citizens, the more decent the state. If you practice a religion, whether you're Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, or guided by some other faith, then your private life will be influenced by a sense of moral obligation, and so, too, will your public life. One affects the other. The churches of America do not exist by the grace of the State; the churches of America are not mere citizens of the State. The churches of America exist apart; they have their own vantage point, their own authority. Religion is its own realm; it makes its own claims.
We establish no religion in this country, nor will we ever. We command no worship. We mandate no belief. But we poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings. We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief. All are free to believe or not to believe; all are free to practice a faith or not. But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions.
Without God, there is no virtue, because there's no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we're mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under. May God keep you, and we -- may we, all of us, keep God..".......

He loves you.

“The ultimate determinate in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas – a trial of spiritual resolve; the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideas to which we are dedicated. … Coercion, after all, merely captures man. Freedom captivates him.”–Actual President Ronald Reagan

Free France: Update

Don't Trifle With Truffles
Then...
The Diplomad:

"[Y]oung Macron, born in 1977, has a record as a former Socialist Minister for the Economy (2014-2016) and, presumably, will have to explain/defend France's lackluster economic performance during his tenure. Le Pen, labelled by almost all the press as "far right," despite a lack of evidence for that label, has run a very populist campaign with many of the same themes that we saw Trump use in his successful drive to the White House. The MSM, of course, are calling for unity against Le Pen, and the pollsters predict Macron will beat her handily next month. That happened to her father in 2002, when the establishment factions joined forces to defeat him, but we'll see if the past is prologue.

Whether this new Le Pen wins or not, however, we, in my view, have seen a seismic event in French politics. The established political parties of the Fifth Republic got sidelined. Le Pen's performance, in particular, has sent a mighty shiver down the collective spine of the globalist elite who run the EU, the World Bank, the IMF, the UN, etc, -- perhaps even more so than the "surprising" Trump victory in the US. I also would note that Marine Le Pen's possession, presumably, of a vagina gets her no support from the Progs. "Far right" vaginas don't count.

Why do I say this has the potential to prove even more of an earthquake than Trump's win?

France arguably is the mother of modern progressivism; it is the French who gave us the concept of "right" and "left"; it is the French Revolution, not its elder American sister, that has served as the model for revolution for the past two hundred years all over the world. ...

In rides Le Pen. For all her flaws as a campaigner, she has thrown a massive stink bomb, perhaps even bigger than her father's, into the progressive world. She has shown, again, that underneath the PC culture, underneath the censorship, and the atmosphere of ridicule for those who believe in something other than the state, there is a living breathing body of citizens and voters who will not be silenced, who want to see an end to the destruction of their country and culture. Progressivism is skating on thin ice. That is the message, and while the progs might well manage to patch over the holes in the ice this time, what about the next time? And the next?

Let's see what happens.".......

Well, one thing has happened:

Charismatic First Round Candidate, Nicolas Dupont Aignan, Throws His Support – And Almost Two Million Votes – Behind Le Pen

"The founder of the eurosceptic and sovereigntist party, ‘Arise France’, who won 4.7% of last week’s first round vote in the French presidential election, last night endorsed Marine Le Pen and announced an alliance to save the country from ‘’financial and media interests’’ seeking to install their preferred candidate, Emmanuel Macron, to the Elysée Palace.
Globalist Emmanuel Macron would be ‘’ten times worse’’ than François Hollande, Dupont-Aignan told French television, referring to the unpopular outgoing president, and was a candidate fabricated by media and financial elites working against the interests of the French nation.
Dupont-Aignan, respected on the French right, appealed to his own supporters, and to the voters of the right ‘’betrayed by their leaders’’ to join him in supporting Marine Le Pen’s presidential bid. The betrayal in question; a reference to establishment conservative, François Fillon, who called on his millions of voters to keep Le Pen from office by supporting former Socialist Party finance minister – and now presidential candidate – Emmanuel Macron. The endorsement came only minutes after Fillon was knocked out of the first round of voting last Sunday in a move which immediately drew rebellion from the grassroots, many of whom refuse to vote for a socialist or leftist candidate after five years of Hollande.
Dupont-Aignan and Le Pen appeared side by side this morning at a joint press conference where Le Pen announced that her new ally would be named prime minister in her administration, ‘’a government of national unity’’ which would re-unite ‘’personalities chosen for their competence and their love of France.’’
The move could be significant in the race to decide the country’s next president; Dupont-Aignan, a self-described Gaullist, carries a gravitas and statesmanship which will attract many voters, appealing particularly to those on the right who would have supported François Fillion had he not been knocked out of the first round of voting.
Fillon won 20% of the electorate, translating to over seven million votes, a significant proportion of which Le Pen must win in order to carry the election.
In other good news for Le Pen, left wing populist, Jean-Luc Mélanchon, refused to endorse Macron for the presidency in an announcement to supporters yesterday. The firebrand politician, who narrowly failed to qualify for the second round, obtained 19.5%, or more than seven million votes.
Despite coming from the opposite end of the political spectrum, Mélanchon and Le Pen voters share a certain commonality, particularly in the rejection of globalization and free trade agreements damaging to workers and a shared hostility towards the EU, now widely seen as serving financial and corporate interests over the common man.".......

"Freedom is not a gift from government; freedom is a gift from God."--President Donald Trump, NRA Convention, Atlanta, Georgia, Apr. 28, 2017

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."--English writer Evelyn Beatrice Hall, in her biography of Lefty blogger François-Marie Arouet, blog nic; "Voltaire", who did say this:

Oregon Muse: "I'll bet most of them thought they'd get some not-too-large fine, or parole, or community service. Yeah, well, maybe not:
A grand jury in the Superior Court of D.C. returned a superseding indictment in the Inauguration Day felony rioting case Thursday, the U.S. Attorney's Office of D.C. reports...Approximately 212 people face felony charges...Additional charges have been added to some of the defendants cases, including destruction of property involving damage to a limousine.
One Hundred and One Damnations: That's how many "Assault on a Police Officer"-charges were racked up
by "We the People"--you know, The Way the Founders Intended(tm).

Meanwhile, Oregon itself muses. Liberty News:

"Set to march in the parade’s 67th spot this year was the Multnomah County Republican Party, a fact that so outraged two self-described antifascist groups in the deep blue Oregon city that they pledged to protest and disrupt the April 29 event.
Then came an anonymous and ominous email, according to parade organizers, that instructed them to cancel the GOP group’s registration — or else.
“You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads so please consider your decision wisely,” the anonymous email said, referring to the violent riots that hit Portland after the 2016 presidential election, reported the Oregonian. “This is nonnegotiable.”
The email said that 200 people would “rush into the parade” and “drag and push” those marching with the Republican Party.
The 82nd Avenue of Roses Business Association, the group who puts on the parade, let antifa win the day. The parade has been cancelled.".......

Jonah Goldberg: "Demosthenes, the Athenian rhetorician and champion of liberty, pointed out around 355 B.C. that residents of Athens were free to praise Sparta's regime, but Spartans were banned from praising Athens.

In 1689, the British passed a law guaranteeing freedom of speech in Parliament. A century later, French revolutionaries incorporated into law the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which established free speech as a universal right. Two years later, the Americans ratified the First Amendment, which guarantees that the state shall not infringe on the right to free speech. Roughly a century and half later, in 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which says, "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression...."

I mention all of this because every time I read or hear about the pathetic state of affairs at the University of California, Berkeley -- where conservative speakers and rabble-rousers alike are banned from speaking lest they be assaulted by a mob -- journalists and other commentators insist on pointing out the irony that this is all happening "where the Free Speech Movement was born."

Yes, I know there was a thing called the Free Speech Movement. And, yes, its members and leaders talked a good deal about free speech.

But the movement for free speech is thousands of years old and runs like a deep river across the landscape of Western Civilization.".......

Free Speech is not some Democrat Party favor you get to hand out to Members Only. It is absolutely essential to our polity. And politics is what we do instead of brute force, the Law of the Jungle.

Antifa Goons had better think long and hard about it.

Just One Minute:

I CAN QUIT ANYTIME: Chris Bray from LA reminds us that the struggle is real:

Bonnie Tsui has spoken to an issue of deep importance, and I feel that we must put a stop to the cultural genocide that we so casually call "lunch." Recently, I was served a "hamburger" at a restaurant with counter service, and I inquired of the staff to determine which person in the kitchen was deeply immersed in the native culture of Hamburg. Upon learning that no one in the kitchen even reflected the presence of any German culture at all, I simply wept at the cultural assault I had witnessed. And then they had the audacity to ask if I still wanted the so-called "French" fries, which, I assure you, were in no true sense Gallic. We must not surrender in this fight. Nothing has ever been more important.

Speaking of assault, it's insensitive to wear an Indian headdress with war paint or Geisha-paint your face for Halloween...yet it's heroic and "woke" to put on a black mask to go beat on people for disagreeing with you?

Want some fries with that cognitive dissonance?
Q: What's another name for "Cultural Appropriation"?
A: Culture.

Confederates in the Atticus Finch

Naw, N'awlins

Mayor Landrieu removed a monument in New Orleans recently. It was a Jim Crow monument more than a Confederate monument, but Robt. E. Lee's statue removal is next. That has more than the whiff of the Soviet Airbrush about it, despite Lee's rebellion. There's also a kind of a historical arrogance about it.

For instance, Washington grew up when slavery was as natural as breathing. Yet by the end of his life, he had trained his slaves in various trades so they could support themselves when he freed them. Not to mention creating the freest country ever known. The question isn't "Did Washington live up to our standards?" The question is, if we were born in his time, could we live up to his?

Anyway, if Confederates hated blacks and Yankees, the Left today still hates white people and Southerners.

But they also hate Americans, Christians, men, straight people, gun-owners, businesspeople, the rich, traditionalists, cops, Trump voters, soldiers, unborn babies, etc.

Lefties: More Bigoted than Confederates Ever Were.

Speech Impediments: "Liberty is Indivisible" vs. The Full 'Tard Fascists

Say It Loud, "** ***** *** ** *****!"

Fox"Coulter said the Young America's Foundation, a conservative group, preferred a strongly-worded statement to a lawsuit against the university.
She said that such a move would effectively tell her opponents that conservatives would kick the can down the road in the fight for free speech.
"The GOP should change their motto to 'Next Time'-- We'll fight them next time."".......

How quickly we forget. The Sharon Statement, The YAF's founding charter by M. Stanton Evans and  William F. Buckley, Jr., September 11, 1960:
IN THIS TIME of moral and political crisis, it is the responsibility of the youth of America to affirm certain eternal truths.
WE, as young conservatives, believe:
THAT foremost among the transcendent values is the individual's use of his God-given free will, whence derives his right to be free from the restrictions of arbitrary force;
THAT liberty is indivisible, and that political freedom cannot long exist without economic freedom;
THAT the purpose of government is to protect those freedoms through the preservation of internal order, the provision of national defense, and the administration of justice;
THAT when government ventures beyond these rightful functions, it accumulates power, which tends to diminish order and liberty;
THAT the Constitution of the United States is the best arrangement yet devised for empowering government to fulfill its proper role, while restraining it from the concentration and abuse of power;
THAT the genius of the Constitution - the division of powers - is summed up in the clause that reserves primacy to the several states, or to the people in those spheres not specifically delegated to the Federal government;
THAT the market economy, allocating resources by the free play of supply and demand, is the single economic system compatible with the requirements of personal freedom and constitutional government, and that it is at the same time the most productive supplier of human needs;
THAT when government interferes with the work of the market economy, it tends to reduce the moral and physical strength of the nation, that when it takes from one to bestow on another, it diminishes the incentive of the first, the integrity of the second, and the moral autonomy of both;
THAT we will be free only so long as the national sovereignty of the United States is secure; that history shows periods of freedom are rare, and can exist only when free citizens concertedly defend their rights against all enemies…
THAT the forces of international Communism are, at present, the greatest single threat to these liberties;
THAT the United States should stress victory over, rather than coexistence with this menace; and
THAT American foreign policy must be judged by this criterion: does it serve the just interests of the United States?"
Mark Steyn:
"Faced with a law-abiding group engaging in legal activity and a bunch of thugs trying to prevent it, the police declined to maintain order. As George Jonas wrote, "Ottawa's finest exemplified Canada's definition of moral leadership by observing neutrality between lawful and lawless."
I wish George had lived to see the social-justice cops of the Berkeley PD take it to the next level: As in Ottawa, the Berkeley police stand aside and let you trash the scene, but are prepared to offer you and your protest group a couple of "symbolic arrests" so the snowflakes can have the frisson of sticking it to the man and getting a nice souvenir photograph, but without any risk of getting tased or truncheoned.
The left is increasingly confident in its ideological enforcement mob. Yet, as we saw a week or two back at Berkeley, when you incentivize thuggery, it's careless to assume you'll always have a monopoly of it. That too is a free-speech lesson - because, as I always say, in a society without freedom of speech, without vigorous public debate, all you can do to express yourself is punch the other guy's lights out.
So here we are seven years on from the show not going on in Ottawa, and free speech is despised even more. I should note one other small change: in the old days, columns such as the one below used to attract emails from US readers pointing out that "We're not like you Canuck pussies/Euro-wimps/[Insert Despised Foreign Jurisdiction Here]. Americans won't put up with this nonsense." But it's 2017 and, from Middlebury to Berkeley, Americans are putting up with it. The organs of the state - from taxpayer-funded schools to law enforcement - are colluding with the thugs against the only diversity that matters: diversity of opinion. A First Amendment that doesn't extend even to public universities is in pretty poor shape. What matters is public support for the broader culture of free speech and in the US, as in Canada and Europe and Australia, the left's hostility to freedom of expression is ever more brazen.".......

In fairness, Bay Area authorities are now even censoring themselves. SF Chronicle:

"The one thing the transit agency didn’t do in the immediate aftermath of the mob robbery is announce what had happened to riders and other members of the public — and seek to enlist their help. ...BART communicates with its riders and the public at large in a number of ways, including a website, an app, email alerts, a Facebook account and Twitter feeds. But officials did not use those tools to notify the public until after The Chronicle received a tip about the crime on Monday morning. Even riders who were on the same train as the robbery victims but on different cars weren’t alerted as to why the train was stopped for so long. ...Officials declined Tuesday to release images from cameras at Coliseum Station, citing a policy of protecting the identity of juveniles...
After a 19-year-old man was shot to death on a train car as it moved through Oakland in January 2016, BART circulated clear surveillance images it captured of the suspect to other law enforcement agencies, but it waited four days to release them to the public, after The Chronicle had obtained them.

The killer remains at large.".......

Message: "YOU DON"T NEED TO KNOW, CITIZEN". The Official Censorship(tm) probably indicates the perps were minorities.

They can protect Bay Area citizens from Ann Coulter, but not being punched and robbed on the morning commute--Priorities, people! Good thing the Super-Sleuth Mayor of Berkeley is on the case. He now claims that he's not a member of the fascist BAMN. He was merely keeping an eye on the group to make sure their riots and assaults are conducted in a lawful, inclusive and nurturing way.:

Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson interviews a professor who says of course conservatives shouldn't be banned for their viewpoints--they should be banned because they don't meet our high academic Vagina Monologue standards.

Or as Democrats used to say "Of course we're not trying to stop Negroes from voting with our Literacy Test--we're just trying to make sure they meet our high intellectual standards!"

Nazi-Funded Community Odorizers Stink Up the Joint

In the Tradition of Their Capone/Alinsky/Obama Heritage

A Mobster's Rent-a-Mob

Lifezette: "A newly formed left-wing activist group with ties to liberal billionaire George Soros invaded the lobby of the conservative Heritage Foundation on Tuesday morning, causing security and police to scramble to the Massachusetts Avenue building in Washington, D.C.  But besides being loud and obnoxious, the organized protesters — apparently bused in from an airport — did little harm.
Staffers inside the Heritage Foundation trolled the protesters by holding "Repeal Obamacare" signs in the fourth-floor windows.
That enraged the protesters, who began cursing and "flipping the bird" at bemused Heritage staffers.
The protesters were remarkably organized. They got off buses, declined to speak to members of the media, and later marched to a church to hear activists speak. U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee, also spoke to People's Action at the church.
The group then protested in front of the White House, where members risked arrest by lining arms in front of building's North Lawn gate. Group members claimed on Twitter as many as 1,200 people showed up for the day of action, which also included going to congressional offices.
Besides having a dirty carpet in their lobby, Heritage officials took the event in stride and brushed off the protest.
"Liberal activists stormed our offices on Capitol Hill to protest Heritage's Blueprint for Balance and our recommendations to the Trump administration," said Sarah Mills, a Heritage spokeswoman. "The Heritage Foundation and conservatives across the country will not be bullied or silenced by staged protesters backed by progressive special interest groups connected to George Soros.".......

Soros is the only original Nazi still active in politics and funded much of the recent violence.

"But I'm not a National Socialist anymore. I'm an International Socialist now!"
Heritage Speaks:

"President Donald Trump recently released his first budget blueprint, “America First: A Budget to Make America Great Again.” Trump’s budget outlines his administration’s priorities for discretionary spending.
According to several news reports, the Trump administration relied on The Heritage Foundation’s 2017 “Blueprint for Balance” to generate some of the key concepts outlined in Trump’s proposal.
“The proposed cuts hew closely to a blueprint published last year by the conservative Heritage Foundation,” The Hill reports.
“Many of the White House proposal’s ideas are identical to a budget blueprint Heritage drew up last year,” The Intercept writes.

And shortly before the release of Heritage's new 2018 Blueprint for Balance, The Washington Post wrote that the “Trump budget owes a huge debt” to Heritage. The piece explains that the administration “turned to … the Heritage Foundation — for inspiration” when formulating plans for the president’s skinny budget.

The Post also wrote that when the administration rolls out more detailed plans for tax and spending, Heritage could once “again display its influence.”
There are 53 specific instances where Trump’s proposed budget blueprint mirrors Heritage’s suggestions.
Some of the suggestions the Trump administration adopted from Heritage’s “Blueprint for Balance” include the following:
  • Eliminating the Appalachian Regional Commission
  • Eliminating the National Endowment for Arts
  • Reducing funding for Environmental Protection Agency programs
  • Eliminating or reducing over 20 categorical programs that do not address national needs
  • Terminating funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, reduces spending on Formula Grants
  • Eliminating competitive project grant programs
Paul Winfree, a former Heritage Foundation expert and now the White House’s director of budget policy and deputy director of the Domestic Policy Council, played a role in drafting Trump’s budget blueprint.
Winfree served as lead author on Heritage’s February 2016 budget blueprint.
Before the election, Heritage scholars created the blueprint for the incoming president and Congress to implement conservative policies, according to Romina Boccia, deputy director of Heritage’s Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies and Grover M. Hermann research fellow.
“It’s reassuring to see that many of Heritage’s policy proposals are reflected by the administration in the president’s recent budget request,” Boccia said.

“Our country needs the serious reforms outlined in the ‘Blueprint for Balance’ in order to rein in the bloated Washington bureaucracy, strengthen national defense, and unleash economic growth and economic freedom,” she added.

Trump is scheduled to release his full budget in May, which will include not only discretionary spending but also mandatory spending, a tax plan, and additional policy proposals.".......

"Shutdown": You Say That Like It's a Bad Thing

You Call it a"Shutdown", We Call It "Swamp-Draining"

The American Spectator: "Trump has submitted a budget, and with some changes, the House will pass it. But whether it can survive a Democratic filibuster in the Senate remains to be seen, and that’s what would precipitate the “shutdown.”

Even then, there’s a good chance Trump can insulate the critical and high profile services that might build opposition. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says he can keep the government going even without a shutdown, but, in fact, even a partial shutdown plays precisely into the Trump agenda and his campaign promises of draining the swamp. Trump’s base, as well as “swing voters” who are fed up with out of control spending, would, of course, be cheered by such a move. Moreover, such a shutdown plays into Trump’s hands by giving him every excuse to slash funding to “sanctuary cities,” to bloated university programs, to global warming science grants, and on and on. Social Security checks will continue, the military will be funded, and necessary services will hum along while grants to study the sex life of the fruit bat will not. Deep State bureaucrats who so depend on the federal government for their very existence would be the ones most hurt. In short, Trump can not only make even a partial shutdown look like the Democrats’ fault but shield many of the (normally) loudest voices from the pain.

More important, every minute the bloated government is shut down reinforces the perception of Trump as a businessman who cuts the fat, extracts more efficiency, and makes the U.S. government more like a business. Unlike the Clinton/Gingrich shutdown battle, the control over what sectors of the government get their money is in the hands of a Republican president, not a Democrat who held up funds on the most visible and sympathetic programs. Trump would relish starving all the non-essential offices like PBS and NPR or global-warming science grants.

Trump’s critics tell us of a looming catastrophe. Trump responds, “Please don’t throw me in that briar patch,” and marches inexorably forward with his agenda.".......

Government Gets in the Way

Obama's Wall

Obama ordered government employees to go out of their way to block veterans' access,
then stand around chatting

Shutdown or no shutdown, what is Speaker Ryan doing in Europe? And why is Ryan catering to the lowest common denominator instead of Leading out of strength? Why isn't Congress treating this like the Chance of a Lifetime, something we've worked for forever, not some country club dance? Why aren't we putting up bills to get Democrats on record? Why aren't we fighting for what we believe? Don't get me wrong--I'm glad the Freedom Caucus stopped RynoCare, but I don't see a sense of urgency.

President Trump should rescind Obama's OUTRAGEOUS healthcare waiver for Congress. That would focus their minds. And Trump needs to get his appointee process going. He's still governing with Obama's bureaucracy.

Get off you asses, boys and girls, and help him.

And don't be afraid of the Usual Suspect Swamp Creatures. Nobody. Is. Listening. Anymore.
"Oh, please don't make me fire half the bureaucrats in D.C., Br'er Democrat!"

Bad Luck Barry

Let Him Be Clear

"Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”"--Robert A. Heinlein

Via The Prof: "Over the past year, 74 percent of Venezuelans lost an average of nearly 20 pounds each, reports The Economist. The military controls the country’s food supply, and the result is widespread malnourishment and, of course, corruption. Venezuela’s hospitals have more in common with those in Aleppo than with those of an oil-rich, emerging economy. As the Guardian reported last year, children are suffering from malnourishment for the first time in the country’s modern history; there are outbreaks of scabies, a disease easily prevented with basic hygienic practices; hospitals are running out of even basic drugs. Caracas is the murder capital of the world. Corruption has infected the country wholesale even as it has created a new class of kleptocratic oligarchs linked to the security services."

Meanwhile, Barack Obama is headed back to the City Where it All Started.

No, not Nairobi. No--not Jakarta. Chicago.

That's where the Community Organizing skills of Al Capone attracted Community Organizer Saul Alinsky, which in turn attracted Community Organizer Barack Obama.

The Good News

John 14:26-27 New King James Version Bible (NKJV)

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

If Only We Had Some Way to Change Laws We Don't Like--Oh, Wait, We Do; It's Called "Representative Government by Popular Election".

White Supremacism Ain't What It Used To Be, Senator de León

“It has become abundantly clear that Attorney General Sessions and the Trump administration are basing their law enforcement policies on principles of white supremacy – not American values. Their constant and systematic targeting of diverse cities and states goes beyond constitutional norms and will be challenged at every level.”--California Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León

“If lawmakers do not like the laws they’ve passed and we are charged to enforce—then they should have the courage and skill to change the laws. Otherwise they should shut up and support the men and women on the front lines.”--Secretary of Homeland Security John F. Kelly

"Voy a ejecutar fielmente las leyes de los Estados Unidos de America..."
That's quite a White Supremacist Conspiracy you got there, Mr. de León. It even includes Barack Obama and the Entire Democratic Party.

You see, they once had complete control of the White House and both Houses of Congress--including a 60-vote Senate, something President Trump doesn't even have. They could written or repealed any immigration law they wished. Any. I guess Trump and Putin got to them somehow.

Yet as leader of the Democrat Party, Grand Dragon Hussein and his Blue Dog Kleagle Beagles failed to dismantle these White Supremacy immigration laws you so dislike. Wow--the Conspiracy runs really deep, Senator de León. We'll see you down at the Klan Lodge tonight, Barry.

President Trump's Immigration Policy is this: Enforcing the Existing Law.

You call that "beyond constitutional norms". Umm--that IS the Constitutional norm, Cliff.

As the top California legislator, isn't it the constitutional norm that you expect the laws you pass to be obeyed in California? Or can localities ignore the ones they choose? That's the logic of your position.

In fact, it was Obama's One-Man Decrees which were beyond Constitutional norms. They were merely ad hoc gibberish, anti-constitutional efforts to avoid his actual Constitutional duty to faithfully execute the Existing Laws. You just got so used to the laws being flouted, subverted and ignored that you assumed that this was now the New Normal.

President Trump is faithfully executing our laws because he took an oath to do so. That seems strange and other-worldly to you, because you haven't seen it in so long.

American voters passed those immigration laws through their representatives, over many years, with both parties and they were signed by many presidents. When you claim "sanctuary", you are really claiming sanctuary not from law enforcement, but from those voters--your fellow citizens.

"Sanctuary" is just a warm and fuzzy way to say "We're Above the Law."

And if that's how we're going to play the game, then I want Sanctuary Cities for Environmental Regulations and Sanctuary States for Traditional Marriage. You can't hog all the good sanctuary for yourself, Mr. Leader.

"You write 'em, not me."
Secretary Kelly nailed it. Convince your fellow citizens. Elect your candidates--honestly, for a change. Then write new laws if you wish.

But if you do, you will expect that those laws be obeyed. Just like we expect for the existing law now.

Or would that make you a Brown Supremacist?

"California Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de León, noted Brown Supremacist."

It's not fun to be called a racist, is it, Mr. Leader? Instead of name-calling, why not just do your job instead? And if you've forgotten what that is, here's the job description:

"I, ______, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter."

Fill in the blank, Senator.
"Don't make me come over there and...hey; are you going to finish that sammitch?"

Earth Day? No Way! Happy EARTHA Day, Everybody!

Santa-Approved!

Happy Day, Miss Eartha.

South Dakota UPDATE: Charges Filed

Via Jawa Report:

Update :04/22/17 : Busteded!
A Sioux Falls man who posted a Facebook video showing him brandishing several guns has been arrested and charged with making a terrorist threat.

Ehab Abdulmutta Jaber, 45, was involved in an incident April 9 at an anti-Muslim event in Sioux Falls.
Jaber was videotaping the event and was asked to leave. According to a release from the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office, Jaber reportedly was carrying a handgun at the time.".......
Caught a meth charge, too. Hmmm.

The guy could have protested and disagreed all day long. But when he made threats and waved his arsenal around, he crossed the line. Prolly high, too.

I've been quite harsh on these authorities in previous posts, so I apologize to them and thank them for Doing the Right Thing.

The Good News: Democrats Vote for Insurance Reform. The Bad News: The "Reform" is Life Insurance Payouts for Suicide Bombers

Blood Money Legislators: The Double Indemnity Democrats

"Welcome to Omar Life Insurance Agency! Also Death Insurance Agency!"

WND: "Ilhan Omar, the 34-year-old community organizer who came to America as a refugee from Somalia, was touted by Democrats as a model success story.
“From a refugee camp to the State Capitol with intelligence and insight,” beamed former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, who endorsed Omar. “This is a wonderful story to tell as Americans, and a great source of pride for the state of Minnesota’s open arms.”
But on Thursday Omar made her mark in another way.
She was one of only two members of the Minnesota State House to vote against a bill that would allow life insurance companies to deny payouts to the beneficiaries of terrorists who die in violent attacks on Americans.
The House voted 127-2 to pass the bill, which now moves on to a vote in the State Senate.
Omar, who represents the heavily immigrant Cedar Riverside area of Minneapolis, was joined by fellow Democratic Rep. John Lesch of St. Paul in voting against the bill.
Omar’s vote sticks out because at least 42 Somali refugees have been confirmed by the FBI to have left the U.S. to join overseas terrorist organizations, including al-Shabab, the al-Qaida affiliate in Somalia, and ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
"Nationwide is on your side--but we're not."
The Minnesota insurance bill was introduced by Rep. Joe Hoppe, R-Chaska, in response to Syed Farook’s jihadist rampage in San Bernardino, California, in December 2015 in which he shot and killed 14 people and injured 22 at an office Christmas party. Farook made sure his life insurance policies worth $275,000 were valid before conducting the deadly shooting with help from his wife, Tashfeen Malik.
After Farook died in a shootout with police, his mother fought to remain the beneficiary of the life insurance policies. The insurance company balked and the case has gone to court.".......

In fairness, the issue is very important to her constituents--at least those planning suicide missions.

"I got my Mall Stabbing coverage at Mutual of Omar's!"

"And we got our Travel policy there for all our trips to Somalia."

"Hey guys--why do we need refugee status if we're able to safely visit home all the time?"
"Mutual of Omar's bundled my auto insurance with my jihad policy and saved me a bundle!
Sorry--is that my Oldsmobile on your chest?"
"What's the big deal? I pay out these kinds of claims all the time."

There are not two sides to this issue. What Rep. Omar and Rep. Lesch want is for blood money to flow to terrorists' families after they kill you and your neighbors. That's a kind of treason. Funding terrorists is an odd position for Lesch, a Guardsman who wants to be Minnesota's Attorney General. He once proposed vicious dog legislation--but now supports vicious human legislation. And it's damned ungrateful by Omar--is this her thanks for America's refuge? Paying people to kill Americans? What's next? Free Malpractice Insurance for these girl-mutilating "doctors"?

What a disgrace. It's hard to say which one is worse:

Omar married her brother
in the commission of  immigration fraud
Lesch reviews Syed Farook's insurance policy
looking for loopholes to get him more money

"Does your insurance company have a Safe-Igniting Bonus Check?
Or a Name-Your-Own-Hostage-Price Tool?
I Keel You!--but not before I buy some Democrat Death Wish insurance!"

I can't help but contrast these two extremist legislators to Indian River's Rep. Brian Mast.
Following his father's footsteps into the Army for 12 years, he lost his legs to an Iranian IED while about to pull a fellow soldier from a river, exhibiting
patriotism, service, heroism, courage and duty.
I can't decide which one is better, legislator or soldier:

Neither Civil Nor Right

Ann Coulter is going to the Berkeley Campus as scheduled with her security detail.

Officials at the school explain why now just isn't a good time for Miss Coulter's attendance
Governor Howard Dean thoughtfully explains why Free Speech is only for him and his crowd.

Meanwhile, Masked Democrats wait for their next chance to riot and assault their sub-human prey...

...while the local police turn a blind eye at the behest of complicit state and local authorities.
