He was provoking them, planning to fall down on his padded back and release the stunt blood, the tubing and padding both clearly visible. If a professional "peace" creep has the balls to scan policemen, he would certainly have no problem running an agit-prop stunt like this.
The photographer/cinematographer was his hometown NPR buddy. They came there together to film their indy film production.

Immediately after Gugino's stunt fall, you hear accomplices shout about the "bleeding" they knew was coming. Another protestor immediately start a distraction, weirdly screaming forced profanities...all stagecraft. The NPR cameraman pulls away momentarily to hide the managed landing and blood release. Then someone, perhaps the cameraman, tells police to get an ambulance due to the loss of fake blood. Very amateurishly-styled professional film-making.

As someone very well versed in camera operation at all level including feature films. I thought this at first. The camera guy was in place after their meeting. He did something which means he is quite poor at his craft or it was on purpose. After the shove he did not follow the attacker with a helmet in his hand and waving his cell phone (trying to sniff). This allowed the attacker to go out of frame preventing the viewing of the fall and head hit.
Now after seeing an angle from across the street and can view it in total. He seems to prepare for the fall and his on his butt using his hands. He completes the fall in stages it seems. With his head hitting AFTER his back on the ground.
Note the cross legged comfortable laying position. His cellphone face screen for viewing is positioned away from the natural viewing position. Hence this Sites host position of it being used as a sniffer is also enforced imo.
There is another view from a camera where his head is near the camera. I believe this is the guy in the black shirt that the cops rush and take into custody who was probably in place to capture it also.
The blood pack. That does logical. His head as he is laying down shows his back muscles are working to ANGLE his neck to an upright position., look at the photos, there is a large gap under his neck and he strains to keep it up straight. The tube connected to his mask seems to be there and leads down to the ear from his mouth. I would think from my film work on stunts he had a blood pack in his mouth. Bit it and forced the blood down the tube.
THe blood, the blood looks like MOVIE blood so to speak. Real blood is not bright read etc. They use a special fake mixture to make it look like blood for photography. Thicker and brighter. Drop blood on a sidewalk from a cut finger, does it do and look like the blood from his ear, hardly I think. The packs of blood can triggered from impact or biting, gunshot blood packs have a charge that is fired to make it explode outward. Very careful safety features have to be used on the actors for this.
The shot with the whole episode which caught the whole thing would also appear perhaps to be from someone stationed to catch it. They framed very well and followed all the action. The NPR cameraman who went to position after their chat did not do this. Crappy operator or it was on purpose, Knowing what I know about most news shooters, crappy perhaps."...….
This is what we're up against. They mean to enslave us, even if they have to use morally-stunted stuntmen in staged Agit-Prop events.
