In the 1980's , the law was changed to allow government scientists and administrators to claim patents on medical products. It was hailed as free market innovation. But instead, it has led to a Big Government/Big Medicine alliance for Big Money. There is no way to have agencies and those who run them receive billions in profits from patents and expect them to give unbiased advice.
