Shelley Luther: Get Up, Stand Up: "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Phony Death Statistics!"

"Where in the Constitution did the people of Wisconsin confer authority on a single, un-elected cabinet secretary to compel almost 6 million people to stay at home, close their businesses and face imprisonment if they don't comply... Isn't it the very definition of tyranny?"--Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley

Even after Gov. Abbot lifted the ban, hack judge Eric Moyé told Shelley Luther to grovel if she wanted to avoid her "much-deserved incarceration".

He even wrote her public recantation for her:
“[You must say] that you understand that the society cannot function where one’s own belief in a concept of liberty permits you to flaunt your disdain for the rulings of duly elected officials. That you owe an apology to the elected officials who you disrespected by flagrantly ignoring, and in one case defiling, their orders you now know obviously apply to you. That you understand that the proper way in which an ordered society to engage concerns that you might have had is to hire a lawyer and advocate for change, an exception or an amendment to laws that you find offensive.”
You mean like when Donald Trump hired a lawyer and they raided his office and made him perjure himself ? Or when Gen. Flynn hired lawyers that were secretly working for the prosecution?

Hire a lawyer? She was probably afraid she'd get one like Your Honor. Seriously--that's your highest conception of Rights? If you want the Rights you were born with, hire a lobbyist and we'll get back to you?

"Your papers, please."

"Silence, peasant! Are you ready to confess your crimes against the MedicalState?"

"In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control."--Dr. Theodore Dalrymple

By the logic of the officious toad Judge Eric Moyé, Rosa Parks owes the Montgomery City Bus Authority a public recantation and apology.

This far...

“I have hairstylists that are going hungry because they’d rather feed their kids. So, sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed then please go ahead with your decision but I am not going to shut the salon.”

...and no farther.

Abuse of Power--UPDATETexas Attorney General Ken Paxton:

“I find it outrageous and out of touch that during this national pandemic, a judge, in a county that actually released hardened criminals for fear of contracting COVID-19, would jail a mother for operating her hair salon in an attempt to put food on her family’s table,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The trial judge did not need to lock up Shelley Luther. His order is a shameful abuse of judicial discretion, which seems like another political stunt in Dallas. He should release Ms. Luther immediately.”

Gov. Abbot: “I join the Attorney General in disagreeing with the excessive action by the Dallas Judge, putting Shelley Luther in jail for seven days. As I have made clear through prior pronouncements, jailing Texans for non-compliance with executive orders should always be the last available option. Compliance with executive orders during this pandemic is important to ensure public safety; however, surely there are less restrictive means to achieving that goal than jailing a Texas mother.”

Science and the Constitution say: End the lockdowns
"YouTube says its policy is to ban content that “disputes the efficacy of
local health authority recommended guidance. ”Shame on YouTube and its parent company,
Google. They also censor views at odds with the World Health Organization, which helped
get us into this mess. Remember that just a few weeks ago, shutting down schools
and businesses was justified to “flatten the curve,” meaning buying time for hospitals
to add beds and gather enough ventilators, masks and other medical equipment.
The shutdown’s goal wasn’t eradicating the virus. That’s not possible.
The Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota,
as well as other experts, predicts the virus will last another 18 months to two years,
fading once most Americans have been exposed and developed immunity.
As Colorado lifted its shutdown last week, the governor explained it’s a “balance”
between keeping the virus “at a level that won’t overwhelm our hospital systems
and allowing people to still try and earn a living.” Amen to that.
The biggest divide in this country is about who’s getting a paycheck."

UPDATE: Gov. Abbot:

“Throwing Texans in jail who have had their businesses shut down through no fault of their own is nonsensical, and I will not allow it to happen. That is why I am modifying my executive orders to ensure confinement is not a punishment for violating an order. This order is retroactive to April 2nd, supersedes local orders and if correctly applied should free Shelley Luther. It may also ensure that other Texans like Ana Isabel Castro-Garcia and Brenda Stephanie Mata who were arrested in Laredo, should not be subject to confinement. As some county judges advocate for releasing hardened criminals from jail to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is absurd to have these business owners take their place.”

"You're all my friends...this would be nothing without you."

And nothing without you, ma'am.
